This motherhood thing has taken over my life like a whirlwind and I have left this blog aside for about a year. It's ok. I came to realise it wasn't the best platform for me to communicate. I much prefer sharing on Instagram nowadays and have been pretty active on it, meeting a lot of talented people, especially from the motherhood community.
I have been working as a freelance designer since last February. It has been a crazy busy year, juggling childcare, meeting deadlines and keeping my head above the water. I believe we have now found a good balance, especially since Maia has started to go to nursery. It allows me to fully focus to design on those days, and not just trying to squeeze some working hours during her non-existing naps!
I have done a couple of sign painting workshops and absolutely loved it! Blake and I are now looking for a studio space to hire here in Nottingham, which will allow me to be messy and experiment with my sign painting while he can practice his woodwork.
I have also been focusing more and more on lettering and illustrations. I have collaborated with some magazines (can't show anything yet but it's gonna be a goodun!) and participated in an exhibition. It did feel great doing those projects as I have been working full time for the last 10 years in some very corporate environments where my style was washed away by the companies very plain and uninspiring visual guidelines.
I have been feeling very low that there was nothing defining my style, and that I felt I had no illustrative style at all. To prove myself wrong and get motivated again, I have been digging through all my previous freelance work. Not all of it is good, but it was consistent and some of it wasn't bad at all. I have then focused on producing new work (and that's work in progress) especially creating new illustrations and working on my lettering. That gave me the motivation I needed and the confidence I was lacking for tackling new creative projects.
I am currently working on a few branding projects, all very exciting as they all empower women entrepreneurs through their new business journeys. I can't show the designs right now but will update my portfolio with a new branding section when I am ready to share. Let's not rush things shall we!
So, yes, go on and have a nosey!
Here are a few things I have added to my portfolio.
